Han (206 BCE-220 CE)In the Han dynasty there were multiple stratigies. If the army was on a specific military mission, an experienced officer was appointed and for smaller operations a junior officer was appointed to lead it. In the Han military army was mostly infantry but for precaution a party of archers and horsemen was sent ahead of the infantry. Behind the party the infantry were armed with spears and crossbows.
For formations there is no evidence to suggest that ancient Chinese soldiers fought in a particular formation but research has shown that they used large armies that were able to move quickly and used military adventurers going on separate expeditions to expand the dynasty |
Ming (1368-1644 CE)In the Ming dynasty the infantry was orginiseed into "companies" of 112 men. the cavalry was very light, being made up of horse archers and lancers and was often actually mounted infantry. they carried sabres but these were rarely used.
The army were well trained for moving around the battlefield and performing specific drills. One of the strategies used were after the enemy had been hurt by weapons then the calvary charged. A lot of things relied on this shock, one example being that if the shock of the charge didn't break the enemy the lancers fell back. |
